Bal Jagruti Association a sociey registered under the societies registration act-1860, like every year this year is also organizing the "Boita Bandana Utsava 2010" at Kalindi Kunj in the bank of River Yamuna, New Delhi.. Thousands of people will gather to take a holy bath and sail the replicas of the boat in this Kartika Purnami on November 21, 2010, at 10.00 a.m in the bank of river yamuna at Kalindi Kunj.
HISTORY: The state of Orissa is one of the leading states from the eastern region which has rich cultural heritage. The traditional boat sailing festival in orissa is one amongst the ancient historical, socio-cultural events. The boat sailing festival in Orissa was started approximately4500 years ago. The trade and commerce in those years were normally used to be through sea to the nearest foreign destinations like Java, Sumatra, Bali etc. In those years, the regular trade and commerce used to be carried out / or established by he business class people of Orissa "Sadhabas". The boats were sent for trade and commerce on "Kartika Purnami" that is on the day/date of full moon night which normally falls in the middle of the month of November every year. During this period the bay of bengal and/or the pacific ocean is believed to be having less cyclonic disturbances in this region.
SAVE HERITAGE: To keep the heritage of the traditional, cultural and business development program alive, the people from the state of Orissa still sail replica of the boats in the ponds / rivers / ocean on this day / date every year. Bal Jagruti Association keeping in view of the sentiments attached to the oriyas living in Delhi which is approx. ten lacs, is organising this festival exclusively in the bank of river Yamuna for last six years.
